Each time I think about beaches, I am reminded of a quote I read sometime back. The quote read “ Our memories of the ocean will linger on, long after our footprints in the sand are gone”. My relationship with beaches have developed since I first went to a beach as a child. As a child, it was my favorite place on earth. The water was exactly what my soul needed in the tropical humidity of India. I absolutely loved getting in the water, and it always amazed me how warm the water was. With time, the love for beaches was replaced by the mountains and hiking. Yet, there are some beaches that linger on long after the walk ended, and Tortuga bay is one of them.
We walked through the Puerto Ayora/ Santa Cruz town in quest of finding Tortuga bay. Through many curved paths and some steep streets, we reached the entrance to Tortuga bay. The gates are opened until 5pm, and we had four-five hours to relax at the beach. As we registered at the gates, we were told we would have to walk for 45 minutes to get to the beach. I expected the gates to lead to the blue expanse of water but instead we walked through a paved path, down steps on a blistering hot day to find the gorgeous Tortuga bay beach. Along the way we saw birds chilling on sand, and lizards that played hosts along our path. We were lucky to have our hats in our backpack since we decided to visit Tortuga Bay on a hot 81 degree day.
We reached the beach but our journey was far from over. The guy at the entrance told us if we walked the entire beach we would reach a second beach. We were determined. Along the beach, we saw a sun tanning Iguana, a dead fish and some people enjoying the weather. The lines between the water and the sky were blurred making the landscape a blue carpet. It was exquisite. We found the smaller beach, enjoyed some much needed relaxation and decided to continue our journey. We did have to walk the entire path back again.
Tortuga bay beaches on white sand were beautiful. Their memories linger on in my heart even after days of being there. Some places epitomize the beauty in God’s creation leaving you mesmerized, and Tortuga bay happened to be one of them for me. Here are some pictures of the exquisite Tortuga Bay in Galapagos Islands.
